EC delegation to visit Tripura ahead of polls

Agartala: A four-member delegation of the Election Commission of India led by Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh will visit Tripura on January 16 to review electoral preparations, according to official sources.

Sources said the two other election commissioners – T S Krishnamurthy and B B Tandon – and deputy election commissioner Sayan Chatterji would accompany Lyngdoh.

They would hold talks with chief secretary V Thulasidas, state chief electoral officer (CEO) Debasish Sircar and director general of police (DGP) John Mathew to review preparations for the elections, sources said.

They are also expected to meet representatives of different political parties during their stay, sources said, adding the delegation would leave for Nagaland the next day.

Assembly polls will be held in Tripura on February 26 along with Meghalaya, Nagaland and Himachal Pradesh.
