Kathmandu: At least 16 Maoists have been killed in the latest insurgency operations
launched by Nepalese security forces across the country even as the rebels raided a
school and kidnapped about 80 students.
Security forces shot down at least 16 Maoist rebels in Bhojpur and Makawanpur
districts, Army sources said, adding three policemen, two civilians, including a girl
child, were killed in the cross-firing.
Fifteen suspected Maoist rebels were killed in Dingla Bazaar of Bhojpur district in
East Nepal on January 13 during a search operation carried out by joint teams of
security forces, a media report said.
Three policemen were also injured during the cross firing. The gun-battle occurred
when Maoists trying to organize a public meeting at an open ground in Dingla Bazaar
clashed with the security forces.
A young girl was also killed when Maoists being chased by security forces opened fire
randomly at a residential building in the area. Her two teen-aged sisters and a boy
also
sustained bullet injuries in the incident, 'The Kathmandu Post' said.
An armed rebel was also killed by security personnel at Chhatiwan of Makawanpur
district, 'The Rising Nepal' said.
Meanwhile, Maoist rebels raided a school and kidnapped about 80 students.
The ultras abducted 80 school students studying in Grade 10 from a local school in
Bhalchaur Village Development Committee of Salyan district, 'The Kathmandu Post'
said.
Also, a case has been registered at the Special Court against top Maoist leaders for
allegedly conspiring against the state, media reports said.
