After Deshmukh, Gandhi summons Gehlot to Delhi
Tuesday, January 14 2003 16:48 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: A day after Congress president Sonia Gandhi summoned Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has been called for consultations to Delhi on the political situation in the state where discontent was brewing in the party over his leadership.

Gehlot, who has been camping in Delhi for the past few days, is due to meet Gandhi at 18:00 hours.

AICC (All India Congress Committee) general secretary Ambika Soni told reporters that Gandhi has received inputs from "various sources" on Rajasthan.

Recently, a three-member team comprising Soni, Pranab Mukherjee and P Shiv Shanker had visited Rajasthan in the wake of the party's debacle in the three Assembly bye-elections and dissatisfaction expressed over Gehlot's leadership.

The team also had consultations with the Congress leadership in the state.

The three leaders were also part of AICC's Manifesto Committee, which had also reviewed the political promises given by the party during the campaign for bye-elections for the three Assembly seats. The management of the drought by the state government had also come up for review.
