Kohima: The Naga National Council (NNC), from a section of which the National
Socialist Council of Nagalim – Issac-Muivah (NSCN-IM) was formed, on January 15
opposed the current peace talks between the Centre and NSCN.
"The NNC emphasises that such action is in the interests neither of the government
of India nor the Nagas," NNC president I Panger Walling and general secretary
Vizosielhou Nagi said in a statement.
"The NSCN-IM is only a faction and thus does not constitute a properly-mandated
organisation which represent the views of the whole Naga populace," they
said.
"Any attempt to solve the Naga political issue by policy of divide and rule is
doomed to fail and the Indian government must appreciate this fundamental point," it
said.
Stating that the NNC was the original Naga political body and stood for the Naga
people, the statement reiterated its stand for recognition of Nagaland in its
entirety, including part of Eastern Nagaland (Myanmar).
"Therefore the NNC opposes any political settlement relating to just one part of the
land and its people," they said.
