BJP will not deviate from NDA agenda, says Venkaiah
Friday, January 17 2003 22:33 Hrs (IST)

BJP president Venkaiah Naidu Venkatachalam (AP): Reiterating that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would not deviate from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) agenda, its president Venkaiah Naidu said on January 17 that his party's stand on "hindutva" was not related to any particular religion but was only a way of life.

"On the one hand, there will be NDA agenda and on the other, BJP janda (flag)," he said addressing party workers at this tiny village near Nellore.

"We do not want any mixing of religion with governance. We only want appeasement of none and justice for all," Naidu said, adding that anybody can follow any religious track but they should honour the country's pride.

On the Congress party's views that it was the worst sufferer of terrorism, having lost two of its tall leaders like Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, the BJP chief said it was due to "Congress party's own mistakes".

It was the Congress party which promoted Bindranwale and gave support to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), he charged.

Even in Muslim-dominated Indonesia, there was bank by the name "Kubera" and its airline was known as "Garuda". "If we do the same here, we will be termed as anti- secular."

On religious conversions, the BJP chief said there should be no use of money or coercive methods as that would lead to various problems.
