Russia again asks Pak to end cross-border terror
Friday, January 17 2003 22:35 Hrs (IST)

Moscow: Russia on January 17 asked Pakistan to fulfil its commitment to end cross- border infiltration in Jammu and Kashmir in order to create conducive atmosphere for resumption of Indo-Pak dialogue to resolve the Kashmir issue.

During a meeting with Defence Minister George Fernandes, Russian Security Council Secretary Vladimir Rushailo said Pakistan should fulfil its obligations and commitments by ending the infiltration of terrorists across the line of control in Kashmir and disband terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

He said this was necessary to create conducive atmosphere for resolving the Kashmir issue through direct talks between India and Pakistan.

The two leaders agreed for closer co-ordination between India and Russia in combating terrorism. They said terrorism in Afghanistan and South Asia posed dangers to both New Delhi and Moscow.

Anti-terror combat was also one of the main focus of Fernandes' talks with his counterpart Sergei Ivanov.

Ivanov said that India and Russia are "one of the worst terrorism-hit" nations of the world and exchanged views on the situation in Kashmir and Chechnya.
