Seer aims to solve Ayodhya row through talks
Friday, January 17 2003 20:35 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti, on January 17 said he would work towards bringing the Babri Masjid committee (BMAC) and the VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) on the negotiating table with Prime Minister A B Vajpayee's intervention to find a solution to the Ayodhya row, but ruled out playing a mediatory role.

"I will request the Prime Minister to bring VHP and Babri Masjid committee to the negotiating table. But I will not be a mediator. I will just be an instrument," he told reporters during an informal chat in Bangalore.

The Kanchi seer was in Bangalore to participate in the world conference on spiritual regeneration and human values being organised by the International Art of Living Foundation on the city outskirts, according to a release issued by the Sri Centre for Media studies.
