Jammu: Pakistani troops have been shelling areas along line of control (LoC) and
international border (IB) in Jammu division in a bid to infiltrate armed militants
into Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.
Pakistani troops targeted Jhangar and Kalasian area of Noushera sector in Rajouri
district with mortar shelling, forcing Indian troops to retaliate, the sources said,
adding there was no report of any loss or damage on Indian side.
Intermittent small arms firing exchange along the IB was also continuing at border
outposts of Khora, Karotna, Khurd and Narianpur in R S Purba sector since January 16.
Pak troops, using light and medium machine guns, fired about 450 rounds on January
16 night, they said.
Exchange of shelling between Indian and Pakistani troops along LoC in these areas
has been going on for the past several days, they said.
The increased firing along the belt by Pakistani troops was to allow ultras to
infiltrate into the state from adjoining areas, the sources said.
Indian troops were maintaining high vigil along the borders to foil enemy designs,
they said.
