Patna: Amid heavy deployment of security men, normalcy returned to the Eastern Bihar
town of Munger, where an armed clash between two communities, sparked tension on
January 16.
District magistrate Gautam Goswami said on January 17 that the situation in Munger,
where two persons including the Imam of a mosque were killed and two others injured,
was "peaceful and normal".
No untoward incidents were reported from anywhere in the town since January 16 night.
One company of Rapid Action Force (RAF), 150 trainees from the constables training
institute, Nathnagar (Bhagalpur) and Bihar military police personnel were assisting
the district armed policemen in patrolling the troubled areas, Goswami said.
He said police have lodged five first information reports (FIRs) against 20 persons
in connection with the violence. Six people have already been taken into custody.
The district administration has already provided compensation of Rs 10,000 to each
of the bereaved families, he said adding he had already recommended to the state
government the additional payment of Rs one lakh to the dependents of each of the
victims.
