Moscow: Russia will help India in setting up a Naval facility for the medium repairs
and modernisation of submarines at Vishakapatnam, under the Indo-Russian Defence Co-
operation Protocol signed in Moscow.
Russia has also agreed to jointly set up several servicing centres in India for
carrying out logistic and product support for the Russian-origin military hardware
to resolve the problem of spare parts, Defence Minister George Fernandes told
reporters before leaving for the Siberian city of Irkutsk to see the production
facilities of the Sukhoi Su-30MKI multirole combat aircraft.
"We have to have a good look at the Sukhoi facility, since we have to build our own
facility for the production of Sukhoi planes under the technology transfer license,"
Fernandes said.
The Protocol was signed on January 17 by him and Russian Industries, Science and
Technology Minister Ilya Klebanov.
