Mumbai: The killing of Dubai-based businessman Sharad Shetty in the Emirates will
deal a big blow to the Mumbai underworld and have an enormous effect on the Dawood
Ibrahim group, a senior official of the Mumbai police said on January 20.
"This is an important happening. This has dealt a big blow to the Mumbai underworld
and would have enormous effect on the D-group," Sridhar Vagal, Joint Commissioner
(Crime branch), Mumbai police said.
"No gang will benefit much from this murder. They kill each other and try to usurp
power from each other. We will keep an eye on any possible fall out of this
development," Sridhar said when asked whether any particular gang is going to be
benefited.
When asked about the possible motive for Shetty's murder, he said there were two
theories.
"One, Chhota Rajan group has sought revenge as Shetty hatched a conspiracy against
them. Secondly, internal factors of Dawood group may be at work," Sridhar added.
