New Delhi: Delhi continued to reel under intense cold wave conditions with the dense
fog pushing the normal life to a standstill even as frequent cuts in power supply
further added to the woes of Delhiites.
Both incoming and outgoing air traffic was virtually paralysed for 12 hours from
22:22 hours (IST) on January 19 night as a result of which 11 international and six
domestic flights were diverted to other airports.
The first flight could take off from the airport only at 10:08 hours (IST) from
Indira Gandhi Airport. The scene at the international airport was bad as passengers
of many flights were seen stranded in the lobby.
Similarly, Northern Railway had to reschedule 11 trains and as many as six train had
to be cancelled. Chaos reigned supreme at the station as people in hundreds were
seen moving from one place to another for information about their trains.
Vehicular traffic was seen moving at a snails place as the visibility in the
national capital was very poor.
Several bonfires were also lit at various cross-roads on January 19 night to provide
some relief to beggars and poor people, who take shelter on roads during the
night.
As the weather God was in no mood to relent, Delhiites continued to suffer from
prolonged and frequent power cuts, which government said was due to non-availability
of power from the Eastern region since January 4 due to technical problem and delay
in commissioning of the Pragati Power Plant that added to the woes of
Delhiites.
