Islamabad: Pakistan has rejected as "fabricated and stage managed", India's charge
that its Charge de Affaires (CDA) Sudhir Vyas was harassed by Pakistani
intelligence officials by blocking his vehicle several times on January 18.
"The story of CDA's car having been blockaded by vehicles of Pakistani intelligence
agencies was fabricated and stage managed by the Indian government in order to
conceal its own misdeeds against Pakistan's diplomats in New Delhi," Pakistan
Foreign Office Spokesman Aziz Ahmed Khan said.
"We can not be brow beaten by the Indian threats in this connection," he was quoted
as saying by the local daily 'The News' on January 20.
Khan alleged that Indian agencies harassed Pakistan's diplomatic staff in New Delhi
and Islamabad has protested in this regard.
Referring to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's criticism about the harassment
meted out to Vyas, Khan said it was deplorable that the Indian government made
baseless allegations instead of stopping the "intimidation" of Pakistani diplomats
in New Delhi.
Indian High Commission on January 19 lodged a strong protest over the blockade of
Vyas' vehicle while he, along with his wife, was on his way to attend official
engagements at the Malaysian and Nepalese Embassies.
Mainstream newspapers here published news agencies' stories of the details of the
incident on the front pages, while Pakistan private television, Geo News briefly
interviewed Vyas in which he narrated how his vehicles was blocked repeatedly at his
residence as well as on the way.
