Paris: In a move that may address India's concerns, France as G-8 chairman is
mobilising countries as part of attempts to choke financing of terrorism.

Addressing a press conference at the end of his two-day visit, Deputy Prime Minister
L K Advani also said that France has convened a meeting of leaders of some developing
countries in June to which Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee has also been
invited.
India would carry on discussion on these issues with France when Prime Minister Jean
Pierre Raffrain visits India on February 6-7, he said.
Welcoming the French initiatives, Advani said he hoped that countries forming part of
the global coalition against terrorism would make it successful to eliminate the
menace.
He said the international community should see that countries do not support
terrorism in any manner.
Asked about whether he took up the issue of French sale of arms to Pakistan, Advani
made light of the question saying Paris may be honouring its old commitments.
He, however, said that during his discussion with the French Prime Minister and
Defence Minister he told them that India was combating terrorism on its own strength
and expected that after September 11 terror attacks on US, the international
community should not assist states that sponsored, promoted and encouraged
terrorism.
To another question about India's agreement with Russia on the purchase of nuclear
arms, he said that India's broad approach was that it should have a minimum nuclear
deterrent, which made New Delhi decide to go nuclear in 1998.
