Saturday, January 25 2003 15:43 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Four Indian High Commission officials, including three diplomats, who were expelled by Pakistan have left for home on January 25.

They left by road at around 08:30 hours (IST), in Indian High Commission vehicles and will cross over to India at Wagah border point in Punjab, Indian High Commission sources said. The drive to cross the border usually takes around five hours.

Vipin Handa, counsellor, R P Singh, second secretary, Vakil Ramdas, attache and P Sundaram, staffer, had been asked to leave Pakistan in 48 hours notice on January 23, a day after New Delhi ordered four Pakistani diplomats to leave India for spying.

The Indian diplomats' families, who have been given a week's time, would leave by early next week.

Handa, who was in India when he was expelled, handed over charge on January 24.

The four Pakistani diplomats arrived in Pakistan on January 24, according to Pakistani officials.
