Imphal: A police sub-inspector was killed and three constables were seriously injured when unidentified insurgents ambushed a police party at Bishenpur in Bishenpur district of Manipur, official sources said on January 26.

Heavily-armed insurgents sprayed bullets at the police patrolling party led by sub- inspector Ratan Kumar Singh at Bishenpur area, about 35 km South of late January 25 night.

Police personnel also returned the fire but Singh was killed on the spot, the sources said, adding that three constables received serious bullet injuries.

Casualty, if any, on the insurgents' side was not yet known.
