Diphu (Assam): Four Biharis of a family were gunned down and four others injured by
suspected militants of the United Peoples Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) (anti-talk
faction) in Central Assam's Karbi Anglong district on January 25 night.
The police said the militants, dressed in black clothes, came down from the hills to
Sutianala in the Diphu police station area, dragged out eight persons from their
houses and opened fire after lining them up.
Four persons, including a woman, were killed on the spot while four others received
serious injuries.
The victims had been identified as Surendra Gaur (45), Manoj Sing (25), Gopal Sing
(19) and Basumati Devi (60). The injured were Anowar Hossain (22), Pradip Gaur (15),
Mainuddin (18) and Sita Devi (35) wife of Surendra Gaur.
The police recovered empty cartridges of AK 47 rifles as senior police officials
rushed to the site. An investigation is on.
The injured had been admitted to Diphu civil hospital, the police said.
