Naxals kill Cong activist, blast TDP leader's house
Sunday, January 26 2003 17:09 Hrs (IST)

Hyderabad: Continuing the violence, naxalites of the outlawed People's War Group (PWG) shot dead a Congress activist and blasted a house of a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and a cinema theatre in Andhra Pradesh since January 25 night.

A group of ultras went to the house of S Muttaiah (60), MPTC member of Congress party, at Jamaanlapalli village near Hyderabad and shot him dead on January 25 night, police said on January 26.

In Karimnagar district, about 15 armed naxals blasted the house of TDP leader Gaddam Bhaskar Reddy after planting detonators at Nagaram village under Dharampuri police station limits, police said, adding, however, there was no report of any casualties.

Later, the naxals left a letter stating that they resorted to this act to protest against a recent encounter in Manala forest in Nizamabad district in which three naxals, including a district committee member, were killed.

In Kurnool district, the naxals blasted a cinema theatre with a powerful detonator in Atmakur town in the wee hours of January 26.

A gang of five to six naxalites entered the Raghunatha theatre after the closing of second show at about 01:30 hours (IST), and blasted it after asking its staff to come out, police added.
