Aamir Khan, Singhania among Padma Award winners

New Delhi: Noted Odissi danseuse Sonal Mansingh, former Sikkim Chief Minister Kazi Lhendup Dorji, Ghazal singer Jagjit Singh, senior journalist Prabhu Chawla and well- known actors Aamir Khan, Naseeruddin Shah and Danny Denzongpa are among this year's Padma Award winners.

Dorji, during whose leadership Sikkim merged with India, and Mansingh share the country's second highest civilian award of Padma Vibhushan with Bal Ram Nanda (literature and education) and Vaid Bhrishpati Dev Triguna (medicine- ayurveda).

For the second consecutive year, the highest civilian honour of Bharat Ratna has not been conferred on anyone.

Altogether 92 Padma awards including 34 Padma Bhushans and 54 Padma Shris have been conferred this year.

Besides Jagjit Singh, Naseeruddin Shah and Prabhu Chawla, Padma Bhushan awardees include industrialists Hari Shankar Singhania and N Jamshed Godrej, litterateur Subhash Mukhopadhyaya, classical danseuse Swapan Sundari and folk singer Teejan Bai.

Padma Shri awardees also include athlete Jyotirmoyee Sikdar, writers Jahnu Barua and Manzoor Ehtesham, hockey player Mukesh Kumar, film actress Rakhee Gulzar, former Indian cricket captain S Venkataraghavan and tabla player Shafaat Ahmed Khan.

Two foreigners, Herbert Alexandrovich Yefromov (Russian scientist) and Herbert Fischer (public affairs, Germany, get Padma Bhushan while Francis Dore (public affairs, France) has been conferred Padma Shri.
