London: India on January 26 honoured 38 eminent people of Indian origin (PIO) in the
United Kingdom with 'Videsh Samman' on the occasion of country's Republic Day.
Indian High Commissioner to the UK Ronen Sen said, the accomplishment of these
individuals was as much an honour to Britain as it was to India.
He expressed pride at the excellence achieved by persons of Indian origin in
different walks of life extending from Industry to medicine, from television to the
performing arts and education to community services.
Prominent among those honoured were Sir Gulam K Nonn, Indian food products tycoon
and recently Knighted by the Queen for his services to Industry, and Sir Ravinder
Nath Maini, Prof of Rheumatology and Head, Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology,
Imperial College, London.
