Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on January 28 said war should not be
a solution to the prevailing Iraq-US crisis and urged the "superpower" to adopt self-
restraint.
Speaking during the inauguration of Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway, Vajpayee, without
naming the US, said, "I do not know what the 'superpower' will do, but self-
restraint is the need of the hour.

"Neither many European countries nor the people of Iraq want war, as this could
seriously disturb the economy," he said.
Vajpayee said India imported a huge portion of its oil from the Middle East
including Iraq. "This is the reason why we are demanding that the crises be solved
by negotiations through the United Nations," he said.
"I do not know what the 'mahashakti' (superpower) will do but they should
observe 'mahasayam' (super restraint)," he said.
The prices of petroleum products may go up in case of war between the two nations,
he cautioned.
On the expressway, his dream project, Vajpayee said his government's aim was to
spread a network of roads throughout the country linking villages with urban cities.
