New Delhi: The new Communications and Information Technology (IT) Minister Arun
Shourie on January 30 cautioned against any "predatory" prices in the telecom sector
and said he was fully committed to a transparent mechanism and government's role as
a facilitator.
Immediately after taking charge of the new Ministry, which he would have along with
the Disinvestment Ministry, Shourie said no steps should be taken to block the
technology in the growth of telecom sector.
Since India has done very well in the areas of software and telecom sector, the
emphasis should now be on achieving similar success in the hardware sector, Shourie
said.
"India has a large room for everyone...No steps should be taken to block technology," Shourie said.
The Minister said his focus would be on increasing the growth prospects in the telecom and IT sectors.
Lauding India's success story in the software sector, Shourie said that the emphasis should now also be on realising the full potential in the hardware sector.
"The IT and telecom sectors have done so well...The idea is to carry this forward so that they may outdo the rest of the world," he pointed out.
Asked to comment on issues such as tele-density, Shourie said he would first study in detail various aspects relating to the telecom sector in the next few days.
