Bangkok: India on January 31 received full backing from Thailand in countering
terrorism with the two countries deciding to conclude an extradition treaty and to
share information about terrorists through an institutional mechanism.
At the conclusion of discussions Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani had with Thai
Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and Deputy Premier Wissanu Krea-Ngam, it was
announced that the two countries had "expressed full agreement and willingness" to
conclude an extradition treaty.
Indo-Thai mutual co-operation will also cover drug trafficking and counterfeiting of
travel documents and currency, officials said.
Advani, who arrived in Bangkok on January 30 night on a three-day visit to Thailand
to be followed by a visit to Singapore, had a busy day meeting the Eastern
neighbour's top leadership, reflecting his growing stature in the Indian government.
Besides Thaksin and Wissanu, Advani met Ministers for Justice and Interior.
