New Delhi: The entire Opposition in Uttar Pradesh Assembly will bring a no-
confidence motion against the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) – Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) government on the first day of its budget session, which is likely to be held
early in March.
This was announced today by Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Pramod Tiwari
after party Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) had an hour-long meeting with
Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Tiwari also said a no-confidence motion would be brought against Speaker Kesrinath
Tripati.
The decision comes in the light of a meeting Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh
Yadav had with Gandhi on February 2 night and after eight breakaway MLAs reportedly
decided to hit back at Chief Minister Mayawati who ruled out expansion of her
ministry.
Seven of the eight MLAs, who formed Akhil Bharatiya Congress Dal (ABCD) had held a
meeting among themselves in Lucknow on February 2 to chalk out their future
strategy.
Senior leader of the breakaway CLP group Akhilesh Singh said after that meeting that
they were yet to take a decision whether to support the Mayawati-led government or
not. He said their priority was not to save the government. Singh did not elaborate.
However, an MLA of the group said, "The Chief Minister should not take our support
for granted. We will take our decision keeping our priority in mind."
