Jodhpur: The Rajasthan Bar Council has demanded transfer of High Court judge Arun
Madan, whose conduct is being probed by a panel of judges set up by the chief
justice of India (CJI).
The general body of the council, which met here two days ago resolved to write to
the President and the Prime Minister to shift Madan out of Rajasthan, a press
release of the Council said.
The council would ask the chief justice of Rajasthan not to allot any judicial work
to the judge till his transfer, the release said.
Madan's name figured in a complaint filed by a lady doctor, who charged that a
deputy registrar of the High Court Govind Kalwani, had sought sexual favours for
deciding a pending court case against her.
A three-member panel, consisting of chief justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court B
K Rai, a judge of Delhi High court Devendra Gupta and a judge of Patna High Court
Aftab Alam, held its meeting in December before submitting its report to the chief
justice of India.
However, the CJI asked the panel to further inquire into the corruption charges
against justice Madan that came up during the course of the first inquiry.
Meanwhile, Kalwani has already been suspended from the service and a departmental
inquiry initiated against him.
