New Delhi: With an aim of paying tributes at the highest-level to Indian-born
astronaut Kalpana Chawla killed in the Columbia crash, a condolence meeting will be
held in Parliament on February 5.
Informing this, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee said on February 4 that the
entire nation was in deep grief following Kalpana's death.
He recounted his meeting with her in the US when he visited that country during the
American polls of 2000.
The meeting took place at a party hosted by the then US Vice President Al Gore in
his honour, Vajpayee said.
"At that time (in 1997) she had already undertaken a voyage of the space once. But
unfortunately, she did not return after the second feat," he said.
