Washington: The United States has earmarked $ 53.35 million for India, which is
almost one-sixth of what it has allocated for Pakistan in its budget for 2004
presented by President George W Bush to Congress on February 3.
The Bush administration allocated a much higher amount $ 326.25 million to Pakistan,
regarded as a key ally of US against terrorism.
In contrast to this, US is considering only $ 53.35 million to India of which $ 27.1
million would be for developmental assistance as against $ 34.4 million in 2003 and
an actual allocation of $ 29.2 million in 2002.
US also proposed an Economic Fund Support of $ 20 million during 2004 as against $ 25
million in 2003 and an actual flow of $ 7.0 million.
India is also slated to get foreign military financing for buying military-related
items worth $ 5.0 million during 2004 as against $ 50 million in 2003.
US administration also allocated $ 1.25 million for international military education
and training during 2004 as compared to one million dollars in 2003 and $ 1.012
million actual flow in 2002.
In case of Pakistan, the Bush administration decided to provide $ 200 million through
economic support fund for 2004, which was same as that for 2003 and $ 624.5 million
in 2002.
Pakistan is slated to get $ 50 million for developmental assistance during 2004 as
against $ 37.5 million in 2003.
