Singapore: Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on February 5 said the international
community has reconciled to India becoming a nuclear power after recognising its
decision to conduct atomic tests was "legitimate" and that it had no "aggressive
designs".
"The early reactions (to Pokhran tests) have gradually faded away and the world, by
and large, recognised that India's decision (to go in for nuke tests) was legitimate
and it has no aggressive designs. They have reconciled to India becoming a nuclear
power," he told a press conference when asked to comment on the US participation at
the ongoing Bangalore air show after not having done so following the Pokhran tests.
Asked whether India wanted to form an international coalition of its own to fight
terror in this part of the world, Advani, winding up his five-day two-nation tour of
Thailand and Singapore said, "We have no such intention and we are determined to
overcome our problem of cross-border terrorism on our own and we are confident that
we will do so."
He said India expected from the world community "a broad commitment that they will
not assist any country, which directly or indirectly promotes terrorism".
"If Pakistan had not been given assistance by members of the international coalition
against terrorism so far, it would not have been able to continue aiding and
abetting cross-border terrorism," Advani said, adding "entire India was a target of
terrorism".
