New Delhi: With tension running high on the Indo-Bangladesh border, Army Chief Gen N
C Vij on February 5 flew to Calcutta and chaired a meeting of top officials of the
Eastern Command (EC).
Army sources in New Delhi described his visit as "routine".
Though the Army is not manning the Indo-Bangladesh border, the Army Chief reviewed
the situation from the security aspects.
General Vij is also likely to visit forward areas of the North East.
In a recent redeployment, Border Security Force strength on the Indo-Bangladesh
border has been increased by withdrawing para-military forces from anti-militancy
operations in Jammu and Kashmir. This task has now been taken over by the Army.
