Jammu: Security forces gunned down three ultras, including two belonging to the
Lashker-e-Toiba outfit, in two separate incidents in Doda and Rajouri districts of
Jammu division, official sources said.
Two armed militants belonging to the Lashker-e-Toiba entered the house of one Haji
Mohammad Sultan at Khajwag village in Kishtwar tehsil of Doda district and started
firing on a patrol party of security forces on February 4 afternoon.
In the retaliatory action, both the ultras were gunned down, the sources said,
adding that the house the militants hid in as well as adjoining houses caught fire
during the encounter that continued till February 4 evening.
The bodies of the militants were still under the debris and efforts were on to
recover them, the sources said.
In another incident, security forces killed one militant in Bhimber Gali sector of
Rajouri district early on February 4 as he tried to infiltrate into the Indian side.
Recoveries from the slain militant included one 8 mm semi-automatic assault rifle,
one 60 mm mortar and one 7.62 mm pistol, the sources said.
According to reports received from Udhampur district, militants fired upon a village
defence committee (VDC) member Mohammad Sharief in his house at Reasi, causing
injuries to him.
The fire was returned by the VDC member and the militants fled from the place, the
sources said, adding that Sharief was hospitalised.
