Satgachi: All the 213 Bangladeshi migrants, stranded on no man's land on the Indo-
Bangla border since January 31, went back into Bangladesh in the early hours of
February 6, according to top Border Security Force (BSF) officials.
BSF inspector general (IG - North Bengal) K C Sharma said the stranded
Bangladeshis were not present at the no man's land in the morning.
''Apparantly they entered Bangladesh between 2.00 to 4.00 am (ISF), the BSF guards
on duty could not notice their movement due to darkness coupled with dense fog,''
Sharma said.
According to information available from the spot the Bangladeshi nationals were no
where to be seen but their tents and some other belongings were still scattered
around the place.
Sharma said that tension in the area is now less but, ''We are alert to prevent any
recurrence of such incident."
Confirming the development a senior official at the BSF headquarters in Kolkata said
that the Bangladesh Rifles took back all the Bangladeshi nationals in the darkness
of the night.
''It all happened so suddenly that we were taken aback by the BDR gesture,'' R P
Singh, DIG (PSO) BSF said in Kolkata.
He further said that the situation on the ground was peaceful, but the BSF guards
have been put on high alert.
Singh further said that a DG level meeting between the border guards of India and
Bangladesh was scheduled for February 6 but, ''We feel that it is not required any
more due to the development.''
