Bhopal: Newly appointed chairperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) campaign co-
ordination committee, Uma Bharati on February 6 expressed confidence of her party's
win in the coming Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh claiming that "even in the
last two Assembly elections the people were with the BJP".
"I really don't see any reason anywhere for the BJP to face a third consecutive
defeat in the Assembly elections. I firmly believe that even in the last two
elections people of Madhya Pradesh were with the BJP but the party failed because of
lack of proper management," Bharati said.
Bharati, who has also been named BJP's star campaiger, said, "In the last elections
the party failed to translate its support into votes."
Asked reasons for her confidence of a BJP win, Bharati claimed that the Digvijay
government had "failed on all fronts" adding "lack of performance by incumbent
governments always led to defeat".
The firebrand leader also claimed that "under her responsibility" she would give the
campaign a new thrust and said by exposing the voter list irregularities she had
begun "her work in right earnest".
Asked why despite her campaigning in earlier two polls also the party had lost, she
said she "did not then have responsibility of ensuring the victory" and added, "I am
a person who can deliver the goods and this time I will do it."
To another question she said there was some infighting within the BJP, but
claimed "its proportions were much smaller and more manageable as compared to what
existed in the Congress".
