New Delhi: Busting a racket of funding of separatist activities in Jammu and
Kashmir, Delhi police on February 6 arrested two Hurriyat leaders, including its
Delhi-based spokesman Shabir Ahmed Dar, for allegedly receiving funds from Pakistan
High Commission for passing them on to militant outfits in the state.
On specific intelligence input, Delhi police tailed a woman identified as Anjum
Zamrooda Habib after she came out from Pakistan High Commission.
She was intercepted near Nehru Park and on her personal search, an amount of Rs 3.07
lakh was recovered, joint commissioner of Delhi police (Special Cell) Neeraj Kumar
told reporters.
He said Habib, leader of Muslim Khawateen Markaz, a constituent of Hurriyat
Conference, revealed during interrogation that she had received the money from
Pakistan's Deputy High Commissioner Jaleel Abbas Gilani and was referred to him by
Hurriyat chairman Abdul Gani Bhat and Dar.
She revealed that Dar was also frequenting Pakistan High Commission for receiving
money for a militant outfit in the state, he said and added following this a raid
was conducted on the Hurriyat office here.
Kumar said during the search, police recovered Rs two lakh besides some documents
and propaganda material.
The duo have been booked under Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) and would be
produced before a magistrate on February 7, the joint commissioner said.
