Muslim board to meet on Centre's Ayodhya stance
Friday, February 7 2003 13:08 Hrs (IST)

Lucknow: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has summoned a crucial meeting in New Delhi on February 8 to discuss the Central government's appeal to the Supreme Court to allow religious activities in the undisputed 67-acre land in Ram Janam Bhoomi complex in Ayodhya.

The AIMPLB, the highest decision-making body of Muslims in the country, would discuss the situation that has emerged following the Centre's decision to move the Supreme Court on the issue, chairman of the board Maulana Rabey Hasni Nadvi said on February 7.

Muslims from all over the state have voiced anger over the Central government's move, the Maulana said.

"Why cannot other parties wait, as we are waiting, for the court to deliver the judgement," he asked.

The Maulana accused the Centre of filing the application under pressure from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak (RSS), keeping the forthcoming Assembly elections in mind.

"This issue cannot be resolved by inciting communal passion," the Maulana said.
