Lucknow: Taking strong objection to the Centre moving the Supreme Court on the
Ayodhya issue, the Muslim Personal Law Board (MPLB) on February 7 said the action has
closed the avenues for settling the issue through negotiations and apprehended a
"1992-like situation" if religious activities were allowed in the Ram Janmabhoomi
complex.
"After filing the petition in the court, the Central government has closed all doors
to solving this vexed problem through talks," AIMPLB chairman Rabey Hasni Nadvi said
in Lucknow.
Apparently referring to the efforts made by Kanchi Seer, Shakaracharya Jayendra
Saraswati, Nadvi said the board had earlier given a chance to the government to solve
the issue out of court. "But now there is no chance of dialogue on this issue."
He warned that if permission was granted to start religious activities in the Ram
Janmabhoomi, it could lead to "1992-like situation".
Meanwhile, the All India Babri Masjid Action Committee (AIBMAC) said it had decided
to contest the case in court and had contacted senior Supreme Court lawyers for the
purpose.
"It is a legal battle ... And we will fight it out in the court," said senior AIBMAC
member Jaffaryab Jilani.
He said lawyers Sidhartha Shankar Ray and Rajiv Dhawan had been approached in this
connection.
