BDR again tries to push illegal migrants into India
Saturday, February 8 2003 19:43 Hrs (IST)

Cooch Behar (WB): The Bangladeshi Rifles on February 8 twice tried to push in people from their side into Cooch Behar barely two days after taking back 213 illegal migrants from Satgachi border in the district after a week's stand-off with the Border Security Force (BSF).

Cooch Behar district magistrate Chandan Sinha said that the BDR first tried to push in 150 persons near border pillar number 886 in the afternoon, but failed after the BSF resisted.

The BDR at 15:00 hours (IST) again tried to send in 400 persons onto Indian territory near the Chotomadhusudan BSF border outpost in the same bloc, Sinha said.

They went back when the Indian border guards resisted, he said.

The BSF has rushed reinforcements to the area, he said.

Panchayats have been alerted to maintain vigil.
