New Delhi: India on February 8 asked Pakistan Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi Jaleel Abbas Gilani to leave the country within 48 hours, official sources said. External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna told reporters that India has also sought the recall of four staff officials of the Pakistan High Commission.

They are Habibur Rehman, Aftab Ahmed, Abdul Razak and Mohammad Nazir. They are officials and not diplomats, he said.

Sayed-Ibne Abbas, Councillor in the Pakistan High Commission, was summoned by the External Affairs Ministry and told about the expulsion, the spokesman said.

The families of the diplomat and the officials were given seven days time to leave the country, he said.

"We have hard evidence of what he (Gilani) was doing, which was incompatible with the diplomatic norms," Sarna said.

He declined to speculate if Pakistan would take any retaliatory action.
