'Raking up Ayodhya issue won't help any party'
Saturday, February 8 2003 17:51 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: In a mild disapproval of the sangh parivar's moves, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ally Telugu Desam Party (TDP) said that whipping up the issue ahead of the elections will not help any political party.

"Since there is no progress on negotiated solution, only option available is court option whose verdict everyone will have to abide," TDP supremo and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu told reporters.

Skirting the issue of government's decision to go to Supreme Court for getting vacated last year's stay on the undisputed land in Ayodhya, he said TDP's stand on the issue was very clear and it was for the court to decide.

Asked whether Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would try to whip up the issue in the ensuing Assembly polls, Naidu said, "These issues will not help. It is only the performance of the government that will help. People are clever and they will judge."

Stating that there was difference among political parties and because of that the issue was before the court, Naidu said every political party had its own political compulsion but would have to abide by the court verdict.
