Snag hits Vice-President's plane, no casualties

Varanasi: A technical snag on February 10 hit the Indian Air Force plane carrying Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Rajasthan Governor Anshuman Singh from Varanasi to New Delhi shortly after take off forcing the aircraft to return.

Official sources said the pilot safely landed the special IAF aircraft at Babatpur airport near here 15 minutes after take-off.

The Vice President was returning to Delhi after a two-day visit to this holy city.

After waiting for sometime at the airport, Shekhawat went back to the circuit house and is expected to leave by another plane, which has been requisitioned from Delhi, the sources said.

Officials of the state civil aviation in Lucknow told reporters that the Air Force plane developed snag with its landing lights becoming non-functional.
