New Delhi: Lambasting Human Rights (HR) organisations who advocate the rights of
terrorists, Union Minister of State for Home I D Swami on February 10 demanded
"singling out and ostracisation" of countries exporting terrorism, like Pakistan,
from international fora including SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional
Cooperation).
"Human Rights groups of different shades and opinion describe action against
terrorists as state terrorism. Those who butcher innocent men, women and children and
snatch their
basic right to life do not deserve any mercy or sympathy of such groups to plead
their case. It is most unfortunate on their part to do so," Swami said.
He was addressing a session on 'State and Non-State Actors in Terrorism' at the
ongoing International Youth Conference on Terrorism organised by the BJP (Bharatiya
Janata Party) youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in New Delhi.
Blaming the US and the rest of the world for not acting decisively following
terrorist strikes in the past including the blowing up of US marines and the blasts
at US missions in Africa, he said, "we will not be able to face this menace squarely
unless we do it collectively and without discrimination".
In an apparent reference to Pakistan, he said countries engaged in exporting
terrorism and using terrorism as an instrument of state policy "have to be
ostracised, isolated and banished from all international fora including SAARC.
Otherwise global peace will remain in danger."
He also called upon developed countries to provide the less developed countries with
the necessary wherewithal to combat unemployment, poverty and hunger, which
contribute to the growth of terrorism.
