Jaipur: Criticising the Muslim Personal Law Board decision to oppose the government
move to get vacated the stay on religious activities on the undisputed land in
Ayodhya, the VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) on February 10 asked it not to intervene in
the matter.
"Muslim Personal Law Board should not intervene in the matter of Hindu society as it
has nothing to do with the undisputed land at Ayodhya," VHP leader Acharya Dharmendra
told reporters in Jaipur.
The Centre should not pay heed to the board's statements or appeal, he said. The
Board at a meeting on February 9 had decided to oppose the government's move to get
vacated the
apex court stay imposed last year before the "Shiladaan" programme on religious
activities on the undisputed land.
Dharmendra, a member of the apex decision making body of the VHP, demanded that the
77 acre undisputed land acquired by the government after the demolition of the
disputed structure in 1992, be handed over for temple construction by February
23.
He described as "a delayed action" the Centre moving the Supreme Court on the issue
on February 4.
"The Centre should have moved much earlier in 2002 and allot the undisputed land to
the VHP," he said.
VHP had given enough time to the Central government to find the solution to the
issue, Dharmendra said.
He said the announcement for the next phase of temple construction would be made on
February 24 after the two-day "Dharam Sansad" meeting of the VHP in Delhi beginning
February 22.
