Jaipur: Terming the Rajasthan government's proposal to ban Trishul (Trident) as
"unconstitutional", the VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) on February 10 said it should
instead curb the activities of madrassas alleging they were training
terrorists.
The state government should instead ban madrassas "as these are open centres of
training terrorists", VHP leader Acharya Dharmendra told reporters.
"Rajasthan has been a hub of madarsas. The Chief Minister should act now," he
said.
The VHP leader said the proposal to ban Trishul by the state government was
"unconstitutional and an illogical move" which would hurt the religious feelings of
Hindus across the country.
"Trishul is a piece of religious symbol of Gods and Goddesses and has nothing to do
with violence, hatred or communal flare up," Dharmendra said.
Its ban would disturb state's peace and create instability in the society, he said
and warned of an agitation against it.
Dharmendra said 'Trishul Diksha' has been on for almost a decade under which about
68,000 Bajrang Dal leaders were trained in the state. He claimed VHP and Bajrang Dal
were disciplined organisations and never indulged in creating unrest in the society.
He denied that the 'Trishul Diksha' had anything to do with the Assembly elections in
the state.
