Bangalore: The Centre has assured that all hurdles in the Devanahalli international
airport project near Bangalore will be cleared by March 15, Chief Minister S M
Krishna said on February 11.
Krishna said this assurance was given by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee during
his meeting with him at Delhi on February 10, wherein the latter said "All cobwebs
and hurdles in the project will be cleared by March 15."
"The airport project got into problems earlier, most of these were man-created and
institution-created," Krishna said during his inaugural address at the Connect II
meet of the tourism department.
Karnataka government's fervent plea for an amendment to the Airports Authority Act
making provision for a private-sector airport "fell on deaf ears", he said.
However, now "it has been officially conveyed that all obstacles will be cleared and
the airport project will become a reality soon", he added.
