Indore: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh on February 12 alleged that
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) was demanding handing over the entire land including the
disputed area in Ayodhya, with an aim to gain political mileage by "engineering"
disputes between Hindus and Muslims.
Talking to reporters at the airport in Indore on his way to Sanawad, Singh
alleged "they are eyeing the chair for the coming elections and therefore raking up
all these issues".
On the issue of proposed visit of VHP international general secretary Praveen
Togadia to Rajgarh (the home district of Singh) Vidisha and Khargone, he said
Togadia was free to go anywhere, but he would not be allowed to "play" with
sentiments of the people.
When his attention was drawn to VHP's warning of raising the issues of thousands of
such religious places, Singh said there is no point in talking about the disputed
places, especially after the court order to maintain status-quo at such places.
He said whether it was 'Hindu jagran manch' (HJM), 'Muslim jagran manch'
or 'Christian jagran manch', the government would deal sternly with them if they
broke the law.
