Srinagar: Two top Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed and two securitymen,
including an assistant sub-inspector of police, injured in a fierce gunfight in
Pulwam District of South Kashmir, a Border Security Force (BSF) spokesman said on
February 12.
The encounter took place at village Kari Mohalla in Tral township on February 11
night when a joint party of BSF and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the local
police raided a suspected militant hideout following specific information about the
presence of Hizbul Mujahideen militants, the spokesman said.
He said the two militants opened fire on the approaching troops, wounding ASI Trilok
Singh of SOG and constable C Jain of 138 Battalion BSF.
The troops immediately retaliated and killed both the militants who were later
identified as Manzoor Ahmad Wani alias Munna, a resident of Chhankittar-Tral, and

Manzoor and Qadir, who were "categorised" militants, carried a state reward of Rs
two and one lakh respectively, he said, adding Manzoor was an IED (improvised
explosive device) expert involved in many blasts in the past.
