Chandigarh: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president M Vekaiah Naidu on February 12
said BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre would continue even if
his party got the targeted 300 seats on its own in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections.
"The BJP would like to continue the alliance experiment even after getting good
number of seats on its own and it will neither divert from nor dilute on the
coalition issue," he said, adding that the party would continue to abide by the NDA
agenda.
Talking to reporters on his way to Himachal Pradesh for campaigning, he refuted
reports that Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani would be the Prime Ministerial
candidate for the next Parliamentary polls.
"We will continue to work under Atal Behari Vajpayee. There is no proposal within
the party to project anyone else as Prime Minister in the next Lok Sabha poll," he
said.
"The BJP does not believe in dynastic rule, but believes in his (Vajpayee)
personality," Naidu said, adding, "Vajpayee is the leader of BJP, NDA, India and
Advani."
He also claimed that the four years of regime under Vajpayee had seen the country
developing at a much faster pace as compared to the "absolute or clear majority"
rule of Congress during its 47 years' tenure.
"Development is our agenda and by 2010 we want to bring India into a developed state
category," he said.
