Two policemen shot dead by naxals in Andhra
Wednesday, February 12 2003 11:23 Hrs (IST)

Karimnagar (AP): Naxalites of the banned People's War Group (PWG) shot dead two police constables at Vattimalla Tanda under Konaraopet police limits in the district on February 11 night.

Sankapalli Krishna, 35, of Vemulawada village and Venku Naik, 30, of Garjanpalli village in Yellareddypet mandal, both police constables attached to Kodimial police station in the district, had gone to Vattimalla Tanda for their personal work after attending their duty on February 11, police said on February 12.

Naxals of LGS Maddimalla group, who had apparently noticed the arrival of the duo in Tanda, later took them for discussion where the ultras fired at them from point blank range, killing both on the spot.

The naxalites also beat up the constables' two relatives, who tried to resist, police said.

The ultras, while fleeing from the scene, took away the motorcycle belonging to the constables, police added.
