New Delhi: Reflecting a tussle within Janata Dal-United (JD-U), a National
Democratic Alliance (NDA) partner, senior leader Nawal Kishore Rai has resigned from
the post of national general secretary.
In his resignation letter sent to JD-U president and Union Minister Sharad Yadav,
Rai, a Lok Sabha member, has not cited any reasons for his resignation.
The letter dated February 10 was released to the media by Rai on February 13. The JD-
U Member of Parliament (MP) could not be contacted as he was out of station.
Though no grounds were mentioned in the letter, it is understood that Rai was
unhappy with the party leadership for quite some time.
JD-U has six MPs in the Lok Sabha and half of them, including former Union Minister
Devendra Prasad Yadav and Dinesh Chandra Yadav are believed to be dissatisfied with
the leadership.
While Rai's resignation is being viewed in the party circles as a snub to the JD-U
chief, Sharad Yadav when contacted said he had not accepted the resignation letter.
