Bangalore: Even as Maharashtra sought to reopen the border dispute, Karnataka on
February 13 reiterated that there was no change in the state's stand that the report
of the Mahajan Commission was final.
Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna, reacting to reporters on the decision of
Maharashtra to approach the Supreme Court to resolve the boundary dispute, said, "I
have also read reports to this effect in the Press."
Krishna, however, hastened to add that his government was bound by the resolutions
of both Houses of Legislature demanding implementation of the Mahajan report in toto
and stating that it was binding on both states.
The state would defend its case if the neighbouring state went to the Supreme Court,
he said.
Maharastra Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on February 12 announced that his
state would move the apex court under article 131 to resolve the dispute.
