Manipal: A trilateral meet of experts from India, Israel and United States have
called for creation of a government mechanism among them to promote co-operation and
concerted action against terrorism and appealed to like-minded nations to join in.
The three countries are united by a shared commitment to Democratic values, human
rights and fundamental freedom and yet all the three are confronted by terrorism in
its multiple forms, the meet felt.
However, "there can be no justification for any form of terrorism", was the
consensus evolved at the two-day India-US-Israel trilateral meet held in New Delhi
on February 6, former US Ambassador to the United Nations Harvey J Feldman and
Professor of geo-politics, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) M D Nalapat
told reporters while briefing on the outcome of the meet.
India, Israel and US have been victims of terrorism for many years, they said. But
it took the events of September 11, 2001 to convince the world that concerted action
to confront this global menace was necessary, they said.
The delegates, they said, lauded the success in liberating Afghanistan from the
Taleban regime, but noted that the menace of terrorism persists across the world.
The ultimate threat to humanity is the combination of terrorism and weapons of mass
destruction. The linkage between terrorists and the states that support them on one
hand and drug smuggling, counterfeiting, money laundering and organised crime on the
other, is well established, according to them.
